Rainbow Stash: Spin the Wheel is a 12-month collaborative textile art challenge created and creatively mentored by Australian textile artist Brenda Wood.
This time, the colour wheel takes centre stage.
Each month, makers are given an anchor colour and a specific colour relationship prompt — from monochromatic and analogous combinations through complementary, split complementary and triadic relationships, to tetradic, temperature and CMYK explorations. Rather than simply choosing colours they love, participants are encouraged to look closely at how colours interact: how they create harmony, contrast, balance, movement and visual tension.
Makers create an 8″ × 8″ textile artwork each month, building a diverse collection that demonstrates the many possibilities within a single colour relationship. Selected participants also create larger works for exhibition.
Spin the Wheel is the fourth project in the Rainbow Stash colour series, following Stash Builder, Stash Buster and Hero Colour, each exploring colour and creative practice in a different way.
The completed exhibition will premiere at Quilt Expo Beaujolais in France in March 2027, alongside Rainbow Stash: Hero Colour, before travelling to Australia.
A celebration of colour, experimentation and individual creative voice, Spin the Wheel invites makers to step outside their usual colour choices and discover what happens when the wheel decides.
Throughout this series I am working exclusively with felt, and created works that have texture and form.
