Pat Abbott from Queensland took part in our Aurifil thread builder & Endangered animal block of the month. Her finished quilt is amazing and shows Pat’s inimitable style of walking in ones own path! As a side note.. Pat makes her own shirts out of wonderful fabrics too!

Recently the finished quilt made an appearance at the Coorparoo Quilt show and was the talk of the exhibition!

Pat turned her blocks into a wall hanging to suit her home.. rearranging the blocks to suit short but wide dimensions.

Her monthly blocks before quilting were a regular feature at the Queensland Quilters show and tell sessions. Her wonderful use of colour gave the animals a life of their own.

Aurifil Threads – Endangered Animals Subscription Series by 2 Sew Textiles

As a textile artist with a deep passion for colour and creativity, it was a joy to bring the Endangered Threads series to life in 2023. This monthly foundation paper piecing project, created by Aurifil Threads in collaboration with the talented Cassandra Beaver, who designed the patterns, brought together a community of quilters who share a love for art, nature, and creativity. Each month, our subscribers received a unique pattern featuring an endangered animal, paired with a set of three 50 wt cotton threads and three solid-colored fabrics from Devonstone Fabrics.

The series has now come to an end, but we still have some thread sets, complete with the free pattern, available in our online shop. 

The original pattern was created by Cassandra Beaver of The (not so) dramatic life and supplied as a block of the month to Aurifil in the US in 2021. Here in Australia we had the opportunity to do the subscription in 2023.
