Recreate a Picture Perfect Memory on Fabric!

Do you have a photo that captures a memory so perfectly that it takes you right back to a special time and place? Our latest Workshop in a Box will help you make a frame-worthy piece of quilt art inspired by your own photo memories. Are you ready to meet the person who will show you how? We are thrilled to introduce you to Stephanie Crawford, our current workshop tutor!

Stephanie Crawford: Textile Artist

Stephanie hails from Bristol in the UK, but loves to travel. She came to be a textile artist in later life after studying for a City and Guilds Diploma. During that course of study, she accessed her unique style of art which combines drawing, painting and stitching in a pictorial style that lends itself beautifully to landscapes and nostalgic snapshots of life and travels.

She has received many awards for her art including “”Best of World” in the World Quilt Show in the U.S. 2014” – Chinese Journey in Three Parts

“This quilt was inspired by an extraordinary trip to China to visit my son, who was living in an ancient temple precinct in a remote part of Hubei. I have three outstanding memories of our journey together from Beijing to Wudang, and this triptych represents them. “

What You Will Learn in this Workshop

By following along with the tutorials, you will be able to make a unique piece of quilt art inspired by Stephanie’s unique story-telling style and based on one of your own photographs. This will include:

  • Direction on choosing the perfect photo
  • How to transfer the image onto fabric
  • Experimenting with Pebeo Setacolour paints or Inktense pencils to bring wonderful dimension and colour to your project
  • Using stitching to enhance the details

What Do I Get with Workshop in a Box?

Picture Perfect is just one of our Workshop in a Box series. Each workshop is taught by a different highly skilled artist and will focus on particular techniques to recreate a piece of textile art that has been created specially for the workshop. Our current workshop is inspired by Stephanie’s gorgeous picturesque works.

Textile artists can have a wonderful surprise delivered to their door with a regular subscription. Benefits include access to a supportive community and a taster kit box of the main materials required to accomplish the technique.  You will also use items from your stash, which is great because you aren’t investing in products that you already have. Learn to use new products, as well as reinvigorate your knowledge about known products, like printable solvy, acrylic ink and inktense pencils. The subscription is a wonderful ongoing gift for a friend or family member who is passionate about textile art!

The full workshop kits come with the main supplies* and an accompanying online tutorial that includes full instruction from the artist/teacher. You can also choose to order the tutorial only if you already own relevant supplies.
